Meet Our Founders: The Story Behind fango
How did two founders from East Yorkshire go from dreaming about product ideas – including a see-through toaster and garage gym – to building the UK’s fastest-growing event platform.
From brainstorming in Greg’s car to remaking the event industry, fango was built on vision, drive, and innovation to elevate events for venues and guests.
There were no shortcuts. No outside investments. Just two childhood friends – Greg and Joe – with big dreams and a relentless focus on solving the problems of the hospitality industry.
In the very first episode of the fango Podcast, we sat down with founders Greg and Joe to share the behind-the-scenes journey of how fango came to be. In this blog, we highlight some of those behind-the-scenes moments, fun facts, and insights into the people driving fango forward.
Some of their stories give audiences a glimpse of the people behind the event management software that powers hundreds of venues.
How It All Began
Greg and Joe met when they were just eight years old – childhood friends and neighbours, bound by what they jokingly describe as a “friendship of geographical convenience” (their words, not ours!).
Growing up with entrepreneurial backgrounds, the pair always had the ambition to build their own business. But the idea for fango didn’t come overnight.
The lightbulb moment came after a frustrating experience at an Ed Sheeran concert – standing in long queues for drinks, missing Greg’s favourite ‘Galway Girl’. That moment sparked a thought: surely events could run more smoothly than this?
Roommates, a Garage, and the First Client
The early days of fango were far from glamorous. The first real brainstorming session happened in a garage – with The Greatest Showman soundtrack blaring in the background providing some quirky yet questionable motivation.
Starting with little more than determination and an idea, Greg and Joe rolled up their sleeves. They talked to hotel and venue professionals, refined their approach based on real feedback, genuine problems, and built early features aimed at reducing admin for busy teams.
That same hands-on, problem-solving spirit still drives the fango team today.
With nothing but an idea, Greg and Joe built fango from scratch – starting with conversations with hotel-industry leaders, admin reduction feature requests, and eventually landing their first client, The Grand Brighton.
Today, the spirit of teamwork and problem-solving continues across the fango team.
How FanGo Works Today
For Greg and Joe, one thing has always mattered above all: people.
Greg and Joe emphasise one thing above all: working with fango means working with real people who care.
“It might be a Yorkshire thing, but we always prefer the personal touch – a phone call over a chatbot. We believe the level of support we provide is what sets us apart from other software companies.”
That philosophy is embedded into everything fango does – from responsive, human support to continuous feature development tailored to what venues actually need. Whether it’s 24/7 customer service or listening closely to user feedback, the goal is always the same: to help venues thrive and grow with confidence.
Looking Ahead
Fango’s journey is still just getting started.
With a fast-growing client base, a passionate team, and a mission to make event management smarter and simpler, Greg and Joe are just as focused as ever on what comes next. As seen in the podcast, the next chapter is all about innovation and scale – continuous development of smarter features, deeper integrations, and tools that make life easier for venues and enhancing guest experiences.
